Company teambuilding: adrenaline, experiences and a great group

On the first weekend in September we went together for traditional teambuilding on the wild Salza river and ferraty in Austria. In order to have enough time for adrenaline activities and group bonding, we left on Thursday after work. In total, a group of 22 colleagues was heading to Austria and we were accompanied by 5 experienced instructors from the Aquatic Centre in Znojmo, who took care of safety, comfort and valuable advice during the activities.

Descent of the wild river Salza

On the very first day, we had a sharp start. In the morning there was a training on safety and rescue on wild water and a light briefing on how to properly steer the boat. Then we immediately set off in boats on the water directly from our campsite in Wildalpen. We went through a short slalom and right after that we crossed the big weir. Not everyone made it dry, so two crews got to experience what it’s like to swim in a cold alpine river. But thanks to the great mood and support of the instructors, everyone took it with a smile and exaggeration. Good thing we had the water rescue so well practiced from the morning.

After sitting in the boat all day, which was spiced up by rain on the last stretch, the forest sauna in Wildalpen came in handy. It was a great opportunity to relax, warm up and recharge for the next day.

Ferrata on Hochkar

The second day continued in a similar spirit – adrenaline and fun hand in hand. Two crews rafted the Salza gorges and in beautiful weather they made the program more interesting by jumping from a natural step into the Salza river.

Those who chose solid ground this time headed for the ferrata in the Hochkar area. First they tried the easier route to practice climbing and belaying. After that, most of the group went on to the more challenging B/C ferrata Heli-Kraft-Kletterstein. There, it was a real challenge – but even those who were on the ferrata for the first time managed to outdo themselves and were rewarded with spectacular views. After the climb, we took another walk to the Hochkar Skywalk, and since it was late afternoon, we were able to watch the sun set over the mountain ranges and enjoy the beauty of the Austrian mountains to the full.

Sunday walk and departure

Sunday day was more relaxing. We had a two-hour walk through the gorge around the river, an ideal opportunity to enjoy the peaceful nature together and exchange impressions from the previous days. Then it was back home, this time without much adrenaline – but with a head full of memories.

The whole weekend showed that teambuilding is not only about sports and activities, but mainly about people. We supported each other, encouraged each other, laughed and enjoyed moments together that we don’t get to experience in the office. For some it was the very first experience with wild water or ferrata, others were already seasoned “crafters”, but everyone was united by the common joy and desire to try something new.

Thanks to all participants for the great atmosphere and to the instructors for their professionalism and energy. We are already looking forward to what next year will bring – the bar is set very high!
