WE JOINED THE NEXT CHALLENGE TO WORK ON THE BIKE

The main idea of the challenge was to cycle to and from work as regularly as possible during May – the alternatives were walking, running or even scootering. It was an annual nationwide challenge where participants recorded their journeys in the registration system, giving them the opportunity to compare themselves with other participants from all over the Czech Republic every day.
The aim of the challenge was not to perform sports, but to find out that regular active movement has unexpectedly many benefits and more! Thanks to the anonymised data on the routes of thousands of people uploaded by Automat, the project organiser, cities can build cycling and walking infrastructure where it is needed and improve problematic areas.
More than 25,600 participants from all over the Czech Republic applied for this year’s May challenge. They formed teams of 2 to 5 people, but individuals could also apply.
Colleagues from all our branches participated in the May challenge – in total, 3 teams with 12 participants were involved from our company, with one of the colleagues representing his branch as an individual. One of the main competitions of the challenge was the team regularity, where the minimum regularity was set by the organizers at 66%. This minimum threshold was met by the Prague and one of the Brno teams, M Computers. We also set up an in-house competition, where a special reward was given to those who had a personal regularity of at least 50% for non-motorized routes. A total of 9 participants won the challenge.
Within the Czech Republic, our participation in the challenge contributed to 730 tonnes of CO2 saved – we ourselves contributed 221.45 kg. Our non-motorised routes contributed to 5.6 million sustainable kilometres covered nationwide – here we contributed a total of 1,724 km for the entire company.
